World Cup Qualifications: Brutal police reaction
Brazil - Argentina World Cup qualifier match was forced to be delayed as police clashed with fans in the stands. As fighting broke out in the stands, Brazilian police charged Argentine fans at the Maracana - brutally beating them with batons. Supporters responded by ripping up seats and throwing them at cops.
Argentinian players tried to stop brutal police beating of fans. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez even tried to climb into the stand at one point, such was his disgust at the brutality. Eventually the Argentina players returned to the dressing room amid the disturbing scenes. They stayed there for more than ten minutes before eventually returning and match started.
