There is more chance of getting a private audience with the Queen of England then there is getting an away ticket to watch Leeds United. Within minutes of Leeds releasing their away ticket allocation to their season ticket holders, they were snapped up and that was exactly the case for the fixture against Hull City on the weekend of 29th February.

Hull City are one of Leeds’ local rivals but Leeds fans will tell you that it is more of a geographical rivalry than a competitive one. It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Hull City fans hate Leeds United fans a lot more than Leeds United fans hate Hull City supporters. Regardless of this, the fixture is always quite a tasty one as Hull do everything they can to beat Leeds which undoubtedly make the derby one of the best days of the year in East Yorkshire.

Hull City had been winless since New Year’s Day when the two teams met during the last weekend of February. The club had decided back in January that they had enough points to avoid relegation and sold their best players, including letting Jarrod Bowen go to West Ham United. Safe to say, the supporters felt let down and after only picking up two points from a possible 27, many fair-weather fans decided to stay away.

This prompted the Leeds fans to buy tickets in the home section given how many spare seats were still available. But 20 minutes into the game, the Hull stewards realised that the home end had been infiltrated by Leeds fans. Normal protocol at Hull is to eject away supporters from the home end but on this occasion, the Hull stewards rounded the Leeds supporters up and marched them into the away end to join the 3,500 Leeds fans.

This unusual step is quite a dangerous one when you consider that the Leeds fans that were caught in the home end were paraded around a large part of the ground. They were exposed to abuse from the Hull City supporters and the odd scuffle broke out as the home fans tried to fight the ousted Leeds supporters.

Ultimately, none of that mattered to Leeds on the pitch, as they ran out 4-0 winners on a day when their promotion charge to the Premier League came alive. In fact, the latest football odds show Leeds United as low as 1/20 to be promoted to England’s top flight. That should give every Leeds United fan great belief going into the last ten games of the season.

In fact, given that Leeds are on a historic run to the Premier League after staying down for 16 years, we can probably expect more Leeds supporters to infiltrate the home end of other stadiums during the last two months of the season. Indeed, nothing will stop this famous club and their hordes of fans from witnessing the end of a nightmare that has run for almost two decades.
