Brazil: He built the stadium in the 60's, now he can't afford to attend matches anymore.

(The stadium in 70's, built by supporters)

Estádio Beira-Rio was constructed with the help of the club's enthusiasts and supporters. They contributed bringing bricks, concrete and iron.

During the 1960s, Estádio Beira-Rio was ironically called "Bóia Cativa", since it seemed that never it would be concluded, especially since those were difficult times for Internacional on the field. The stadium's debut was finally played on April 6, 1969.

The stadium has gone through restoration and developments that makes it fit to host matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. As a result of this some fans can no longer afford to attend matches of their own team.

One fan named João wrote a letter to his club.

Letter to Sport Club Internacional.

"Dear Sport Club Internacional, my name is João, I am humble and living with a small retirement from Social Security. I was a young man full of life and dreams in the 60s, when you called me for the first time.

And there I was, sometimes stealing bricks in the works of Porto Alegre, sometimes  collect coins to buy bags of cement, I never cease to answer a call of my beloved club.

In 1969, finally, our biggest dream come true, our GIANT was there emerged under water, the fruit of the work of many people was standing, and I was there, I attended what I helped come true, albeit anonymously, I was just one more.

In the '70s, when the Sport Club Internacional put the Rio Grande do Sul state on the map of football, I was there, beaming and proud.

The 80's came, difficult decade, no major title, but I was there, never left my club.

Then came the unlucky 90s, horrible season, we won the Brazil Cup in 1992 and then were only sadness, I as always present in my permanent place at Coréia (old Beira-Rio sector), I often came home with no voice and bruises caused by the police when i was just going to demand improvements for our team, in the ancient gate 8, and even then, I never abandoned you.

I celebrated like crazy for the Gauchão title (Rio Grande do Sul state championship), that Monday with open gates against Veranópolis, i suffered with almost 3 relegations, and in the 2000s saw my team win it all, i saw the Americas and the world being painted RED.

Today, on 19.03.2014, with the stadium that I helped build about to be officially reopened, I am old and tired, with my little retirement, I will not be able to meet our modernized and refurbished house, so i, who never abandoned you.

You've left me out of party of reopening, all I ask is that I can watch some games, and so, finally, to rest happy.

Please Sport Club Internacional, do not abandon those who have never left you."
